I have to admit I was torn on this. Who am I to tell another woman what to wear? But society does have dress codes for various reasons. Naturists can't go everywhere in the buff.Offices usually require suits and ties. Some professions have uniforms for safety or identity purposes. Some symbols, such as swastikas or KKK garb, represent a horrific time in human history and bring out strong emotions in people. In Canada, we try to accommodate for religious symbols. But when you come here, leave your barbaric sharia law and oppressive symbols behind. You came for a better life:bring only your best with you.
I understand what your saying Owl700, and I really don't have any wish to disrespect any religion or people, but I believe that this is not about their religion, I do think it is a man made rule to control their women and the women don't know any better, so accept it from conditioning as children. And then there is the security issue... You don't really know who is under those things... And the way things have been in the past few years, we are right to be cautious... And why can't their men control themselves at the sight of a woman??? The rest of the world can! And when westerners go to their country then we have to respect their laws!!! You are right... "leave your barbaric sharia law and oppressive symbols behind"... Thank you Owl...
Ex fundamentalist Oh, I never meant to imply you were disrespecting anything at all.And you are absolutely right. I would love to see the baroque banished as a step toward empowering women of the world. I guess my question is this. How do you cut through all that brainwashing? How do I say you are free to wear what you want it has to be on my terms? How do I find that balance?
